GUIDEBOOK ON GENDER AFFIRMATIVE THERAPY
The initiation of multifolded dialogues metamorphosized over the years that brought out the need to make aware the medical fraternity about the issues concerning the lived ex periences of transgender individuals, and about gender affirmative care.
On January 20th 2017, thirty medical health professionals and one legal advisor attended an event organized by SFE, to launch the guidebook titled “A Good Practice Guide to Gender Affirmative Care”. This has been a very significant work as at the time of its publication, there existed only one guidebook that was published in Tamil Nadu which again only focused on the requirements of M-to-F transfeminine persons. It was important to bring to light the physical and mental needs and requirements of FTM transmasculine people during the process of transitioning and post-transition with the medical fraternity, through the lens of lived experiences of the transgender community.
The guidebook on Gender Affirmative Therapy was launched by SFE member Neel Ghosh, who identifies as a transman, and professor Dr Jayanti Basu. Dr Ujjaini Srimani and Dr Ranjita Biswas, psychiatrists and members of Sappho for Equality, facilitated the process of compiling the document.
KATHA-BARTA : ALLIANCE BUILDING WITH LGBT FAMILIES
Kathe Barta was a parents meet organised by Sappho for Equality in the year 2017. The intent behind this advocay program was to make parents of queer-trans* persons aware of their lived realities. It was a dialogue that divulged the need of parents to walk the pathway of accepting their children and not discriminating them on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation. Many members of SFE and their families, parents and siblings attended the awareness raising program.
