2001 Landmarks

1. SETTING UP SAPPHO HELPLINE

Sappho set up it's first helpline service in January 2001 which was available from 1-3pm  only on Mondays. It was a landline number supported by another women's rights organization Swayam.

Current Helpline Number of Sappho for Equality is +91 98315 18320 which runs from 10am to 6pm everyday except Mondays and 2nd and 4th Sundays.

 2. FIRST INDEPENDENT MASS AWARENESS PROGRAM BY SAPPHO

On Dec 22, 2001 Sappho organized first independent mass  awareness program at Abanindra Sabhagriha which is a State Govt. property. With a lot of inner strength and resilience Sappho members conducted  the whole three hours program. The hall was quite full. The program was named "LESBIANISM - FACTS & FICTIONS, A SEMINAR ON CREATING AWARENESS ON LESBIAN ISSUES". Our members took a lot of courage to come out and directly challenged the misconceptions around lesbianism and thus breaking the myths.
